Qualifications
Mr. Roger Haene is a UK trained consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon, fellowship-trained in foot & ankle reconstruction.
He has a combined 25 years of experience in Orthopaedic Surgery, and 15 years at Consultant level.
He studied at the University of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg and gained primary surgical experience in Switzerland before undertaking his orthopaedic training in the Cambridge region of the East of England, leading to full CCT. Dr. Roger Haene underwent subspecialist foot & ankle training in Dublin, Ireland and Toronto, Canada.
He then worked as a Consultant in Canada for 7 years, with 3 of those years working as Head of Department and Head of Orthopaedic Education in his hospital.
He was awarded Assistant Professor Status by 2 Universities (Dalhousie University in Halifax and Memorial University in St. Johns). He was an executive committee member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
He moved to the UAE 8 years ago. He spent 3 years working at the level 1 trauma centre for Abu Dhabi before being recruited to set up the foot & ankle service at a prestigious private hospital. He was also a founding member of the executive committee of the UAE Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Club under the Emirates Medical Association.
Since 2025 he has returned to Europe in order to practice in the government sector where he feels he is able to make the greatest impact, and also to be closer to family in Europe. He is now based in Southwest Ireland.
He speaks several languages, including English, German, Swiss-German and Afrikaans.
Research & Publications
He has published in respected orthopaedic scientific journals, is a regular speaker at international conferences, and is up-to-date with the latest evidence-based knowledge and surgical techniques.
